MESTIZX COLLECTIVE is an organ of MESTIZO ARTS PLATFORM.
European cities have become melting pots where people from all over the world come together. They follow the raw materials (wealth) of their countries, in search of knowledge, security, and a better future. After seeking warmth, the first thing we do when gathered around a fire is tell a story. Thousands of stories intertwined. The possibility of building a fairer and more honest narrative about who we are as humanity. An immeasurable treasure. But accessing these stories is not easy. At Mestizo, we specialize in making these stories visible through artistic devices. They can be projects in collaboration with private or governmental organizations, or works and installations. The common thread is their participatory nature and the raw material: the stories. We believe that art plays a vital role in shaping the future. Just as sociologists or physicists investigate and search for clues to help us face the challenges of being together, artists do so in their own way. Their main tool is intuition. Artists function as oracles that allow us to reflect on who we were, who we are, and who we can become. They are true factories of the future. However, in order to approach that future, artistic practice needs a wide range of perspectives and intuitions. In a unique context marked by urban growth, major demographic changes, ecological challenges, and global interconnectedness, we need new answers and strategies. From this urgency, we build our work, acknowledging the challenges but focusing on all that we have to learn from and benefit from these new possibilities.
